Beginner Piping and Drumming Program

When:

Monday evenings 6pm-7pm

From Monday, October 21, 2024 to Monday, May 26, 2025 


Where:

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 234

57 Watson Pkwy S, Guelph, ON N1L 0H8


Who can join: 

Anyone 18 and under with an interest in learning to play the bagpipes, snare drum, tenor drum or bass drum. No experience required!


What do you get:

  1. Professional group instruction from qualified instructors 

  2. Print materials and audio and video supplementary materials where required 

  3. Loaner practice equipment

  4. Parade and performance opportunities once appropriate playing level is achieved 


Who is instructing:

A team of experienced instructors and members of the Guelph Pipe Band, 2024 North American Champions and 2024 Champion Supreme Winners. All instructors and leadership members within the Guelph Pipe Band have completed a vulnerable sectors background check with their local police department.


How much:

All are welcome to attend the first four classes, absolutely free! For those students wishing to commit after that, lessons are only $10 a week*.

Intermediate Piping and Drumming Program

When:

Monday evenings 7pm-9pm

From Monday, October 21, 2024 to Monday, May 26, 2025

Who can join: 

Any age musician, including:

  1. Graduates of the beginner program 

  2. Players with previous pipe band experience


What do you get:

  1. Professional group instruction from qualified instructors 

  2. Print materials and audio and video supplementary materials where required 

  3. Ensemble practice time supported by instructors

  4. Parade, performance and competition opportunities once appropriate playing level is achieved 


Who is instructing:

A team of experienced instructors and members of the Guelph Pipe Band, 2024 North American Champions and 2024 Champion Supreme Winners. All instructors and leadership members within the Guelph Pipe Band have completed a vulnerable sectors background check with their local police department.

Attendance and cancellations:

  • All students should attend all classes
  • Missed classes by students will not be rescheduled or refunded
  • If the class is cancelled by the Guelph Pipe Band due to extenuating circumstances, an extra week of classes will be added at the end of the term
  • The Guelph Pipe Band may substitute your regular instructor with another qualified instructor without notice
  • Online classes via Zoom are an option for all students if they are sick or unable to attend in person. 
    • Please contact guelphpipeband@gmail.com at least 12 hours prior to the lesson time to request to join the class via zoom. You will need a laptop or tablet device and an internet connection to join.


Communication:

  • The Guelph Pipe Band will be communicating with students and parents via email only
  • We will be primarily using the student portal of the "My Music Staff" software to send email communications
  • Please mark any emails from guelphpipeband@gmail.com or from mymusicstaff.com as important in your inbox and check your spam for any missed communications
  • We will not be able to call all students in case of bad weather cancellation/move to zoom or other last minute changes to the program.


Completion of the Program:

  • Upon completion of one of our programs, students may enrol in the next term of classes or stop their participation altogether
  • If stopping, all supplied materials such as sticks and drum pads will be returned to the Guelph Pipe Band
  • Upon completion of the Beginner Program 
    • Students may be invited to join the band at a parade, performance, or competition.
